KRAFT HIGHLIGHTS TENSIONS BETWEEN SPOILED GIRLFRIENDS AND SELF-MADE GIRLS
by THE BERGSTROM GROUP on July 20, 2012
A recent ad for Kraft foods’ Ritz brand crackers has attracted attention by highlighting tensions between girls who look for men to gift them luxury and those who want to be self-sufficient.
The video presents two girls showing off gifts from their boyfriend and gan die (干爹, meaning sugar daddy) – a fancy watch and an iPhone. When they ask the third girl what she has, she says “I have Ritz." The sassy self-made snacker takes a bite of Ritz and the crunch breaks both the phone and the watch. "I bought it myself,” she says.
In one day, the video caught over 35,000 views. Netizens commented, “this is classic! Especially when the girl said ‘I bought it myself’, she is awesome!” Some others think this is a fight between bai fu mei (literally meaning those who are white, rich, and pretty) and nv diao si (female diao si, who are not white, rich, and pretty).
